Grey who moved from Montgomery County, New York and acquired several plots of land from the federal government.
The town was actually called Graystown for a while until the name officially became Montgomery after Montgomery County, New York. Daniel Gray later went on to found a number of businesses that would help the community's economy including the Gray-Watkins Mill.
