Located in Lake County, Illinois, Lake Bluff was founded in 1836 when John and Catherine Cloes claimed land in the area. The area would not truly blossom until 1855 when the first railroad was established linking Chicago and Waukegan. During that period what is now known as Lake Bluff was actually referred to as Rockland. Yet, later settlers would rename the area Lake Bluff and in 1895 Lake Bluff was incorporated as a Village.
